1. Beach basket bags
2017 is the year of the beach basket bag and we are certainly not complaining! First debuting the fashion world in the 50s and 60s, these straw (or jute) bags have made a major come-back. Not only do they look super chic, they are also practical. Never again do you have to worry about sand getting into the nooks and crannies of your designer handbag or water staining your leather tote – basket bags are durable and sand can simply be brushed off.
2. A white tee under a summer dress
Back to that baby shower down by the beach mentioned previously – this is the perfect ‘let’s celebrate the birth of your soon-to-be child at the beach without showing too much skin’ look. Pairing a little white tee with a strappy summer dress is one of the hottest casual summer looks trending this year. Again, another favourite from the past (the 90s) that has made a come-back, this throw-back look is easy to pull off. Pair any white tee with a gorgeous slip dress and you have already nailed this style.
3. Scarf in your hair
This is such a pretty look and it is in right now for the summer. Picture: frolicking around the beach in your cutest bikini with a gorgeous pastel-coloured scarf tied up through your hair. The simplest way to rock this look is by tying it around your head and tucking the ends into the front or for something a little more boho, try loosely tying your scarf and pulling out little pieces of hair to frame your face. Not only is this trend stylish, it also keeps the hair out of your face on those hot, summer days.
4. Bright stripes
Two of the hottest summer trends – bright colours and stripes. In terms of colour, think bright lemon yellows, bold tangerines and siren lipstick reds. In terms of stripes, think thick, thin, bold – basically any stripes go. Wear these two trends separately or pair them – a classic yellow bikini with a striped sarong – for an even bigger bang!
5. Round sunglasses
Protect your eyes this summer on the beach with a pair of round sunglasses. This year, round and smaller lenses are back in. They especially suit women with square, oblong, oval and heart-shaped faces. Style icon: Sofia Richie rocking a pair of circle Ray-Ban’s.
